Samara Private Game Reserve

Introduction
If you want the best-ever views of the night sky, go to the Great Karoo, the arid and remote heartland of South Africa

Local Area Information
The diverse landscape of Samara is breathtaking, and encompasses four of South Africa's seven biomes: Grassland, Nama Karoo, Valley Thicket and Savannah. The landscape is rich in Shepherd Trees (Boscia Albitrunca), some of which are over 700 years old. A wide variety of Aloe species include the Aloe Ferox which, when in flower, adds a vibrant splash of red and orange to the landscape. The effect is spectacular.

Accommodation
With three Lodge Suites within the main lodge building and an additional three Karoo Suites, located in the grounds, Samara caters for families, groups and individuals.  The décor is a tasteful fusion of traditional Karoo style and modern African influences. All suites have private en-suite bathrooms and are fully equipped.

Facilities
The luxurious Karoo Lodge has a wide veranda from which to enjoy the stunning surrounds, along with a comfortable living room, snug bar and dining room. Spa treatments are available in the privacy of your own suite. We also have an open boma, a swimming pool and a tennis court.

Internet connections are available in all suites for guests wishing to use their own laptop. Alternatively, access is available in the lodge, along with satellite TV, Internet and fax facilities.

Activities
Activities include game drives, and more...

Children's Policy
Children are welcome, however, the minimum age for children allowed in the diningroom is 6.

Unique Features
Samara Private Game Reserve covers 28, 000 hectares of virgin wilderness, encompassing mountains and high valleys that descend to the vast plains of Camdeboo surrounding Graaff Reinet, a whitewashed town famous for its 18-th century architecture.

The reserve opened in November 2005 after many years spent rehabilitating the former farm land and restocking with cheetah (a major attraction here), rare mountain zebra, white rhino and plains game such as kudu, eland and black wildebeest. You can be quite alone at Samara, out of sight of anything manmade.

At night you will have the Milky Way for company, and by day wild animals and a breathtaking landscape. Ask about the fossils dating back 250 million years, and the 700-year-old shepherd trees. There are daily drives in open Land Rovers and there's a pool to cool off in. Three Karoo Suites are in cottages a few steps from the main lodge, and three Lodge Suites are located in the original farmhouse. All are decorated in a quietly updated colonial style, reflecting Eastern Cape history. There are fantastic views from the wraparound veranda.
